Born in Chicago, Larry studied drums with Fred
Silver (student of Alan Dawson). He played in a high school jazz band -- directed by Doc
Owens. Larry won the Illinois state music educators' award for electronic music
composition. He moved to Portland in 1977, studied with Mel Brown, and gigged in the area.
He won the "Best Small Group" award at the Berkley Jazz festival, while
attending Mt. Hood Community College. He has played with many Portland-area musicians/jazz
ensembles. Highlights include playing with Mose Allison, Hadley Caliman, the Diamonds. He
is also an experienced studio musician. He owns his own general contracting business. |
